Connor Ratter is a great example of an ambitious and dedicated Apprentice Fire & Security Engineer at North. His journey with North signifies the company's commitment to cultivating talent and fostering innovation. Connor's impact within the company transcends his apprenticeship role. His dedication, evident work ethic, and adept communication skills have positioned him as a valuable contributor within the Engineering team.

As part of North’s contract with the City of Edinburgh Council to help develop their Smart City Operations Centre, a commitment was made to start a new Apprentice Fire and Security Engineer. Connor Ratter started with North following a short career spanned across Hospitality and Financial Services. These roles, whilst fulfilling, couldn’t satisfy Connor’s ambition to work in an Engineering role. It was clear at interview stage that there was a bright future beckoning for this future engineer.

Hard work, commitment, and a hard-wired desire to be the best he could were quickly visible. A people person, and someone who builds instantaneous relationships with the engineers and the customers he’s working with, he understands the power of effective communication. Confident in his own abilities but understanding of where he is on his journey of learning, Connor has come a long way in the first year at North.

A resident of Edinburgh, Connor has had a significant involvement in the project to revolutionise Public Space CCTV in Edinburgh. Using cutting edge technology, Edinburgh now has a Public Space CCTV network and Smart Operations Centre of significant stature, and Connor has cut his teeth in this environment. The City of Edinburgh Council’s vision to promote an apprenticeship for one of its own people, is bearing fruit as Connor makes good on the opportunity. Connor is here for the long-term, and in the short time of working is already creating a legacy of note for his home city.

Working in Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP) has been another key learning for Connor. Developing his Fire skills in an enterprise level, challenging and critical care environment, Connor has been a key contributor to maintenance and reactive services for RHCYP. Now well known to the staff at RHCYP, Connor has used his significant ability to develop and establish relationships. This is an important and valued skill for North and all its Engineering team, having Apprentice Engineers with the same qualities is of great benefit.

Connor is a young Apprentice Engineer who is moving at fast pace through his apprenticeship. The future is very bright for this young engineer, and North has certainly delivered in its commitment to the City of Edinburgh that we will develop, nurture and mentor one of its own.
