The Royal Air Force is an agile, capable organisation of 34600 people making a decisive global contribution in support of UK policy. It currently has 4500 apprentices (12% of our workforce) across 24 schemes which have been closely matched to their specialist profession and, through our engagement with industry colleagues in the design of Standards, to the Nation’s needs.
At the forefront of Air and Space power delivery, the RAF needs a highly skilled, committed and motivated workforce. Outstanding people, continually developed through- career, are at the heart of everything we do. This was recognised in 1920 when our first innovative apprenticeships started and continues today with 90% of recruits undertaking one of 24 apprentice schemes totally integrated and delivered ‘in house’ at our training schools and operational workplaces worldwide with each apprentice receiving bespoke support.
Through the world-class apprenticeships we offer, we are able to attract the high calibre innovative, imaginative and diverse people we need, including many with underlying aptitude rather than specific qualifications, and unleash their potential by providing them with 21st Century learning and through career professional development with opportunities for advancement on merit to the highest ranks and into employment beyond.
