Markellos has been determined from day dot. Coming to England from Greece and having English as a second language, Markellos has taken on functional skills in addition to his hairdressing qualification, and week after week shows up over the duration of the course is now progressing onto his exams. Throughout his time at the academy Markellos has been a present positive voice, always asking questions, asking for feedback, and encouraging the class to give it a go, and to continue to practice. Markellos continues to travel into college and remain after class each lesson to practice what he has learnt in lesson. He provides additional customer care to ensure a fantastic experience for the client. He ensures that the customer feels comfortable on arrival, offers refreshments, and provides the kind of service that a business can promote as a luxury visit. When he provides such a high standard of customer care the salon thrives, the stylists feel supported and Markellos‘s job satisfaction increases and is often rewarded in the form of recognition, incentives, or client tips!

His off the job training and study is one of the most important elements of his apprenticeship. This is the opportunity to be a stylist in the Academy, a salon setting with paying models, and to develop his wider skills. Through undertaking activities that promote inclusion and hot topics that focus on awareness of a variety of empathy building scenarios, he also develops his ability to work with many different types of people and interact well with others that may not otherwise have come in to contact with. This is a great career path as developing empathy, understanding about many different people outside of your own circle and using creativity to make people look and feel great is rewarding, the hair and beauty is growing and evolving all the time and our apprentices are really shaping the future and success of the industry.
